First of all, electrolytes don’t only consist of sodium, they’re also things like potassium, magnesium, and calcium. The main one you lose when you sweat is sodium so that’s the why most of the drinks are salty little yuck’em drinks.
Ask yourself this, are you getting wildly sweaty during your workout? Like, are your clothes soaked? Are you getting a buncha fuckin salt stains on your shit? Are you training for hours in the heat?
If you answered “no” which I hope to fuck you did, you probably don’t need an electrolyte drink
Most people doing a 45 minute work out are already getting plenty of sodium from their regular diet. In North America, getting too little salt is generally not a problem.
Basically unless you’re doing endurance training, working outside in the heat, or sweating like mad for hours at a time, water is probably fine.
I’m not telling you to carry around a huge jug or hit an arbitrary target like 8 glasses a day.
I’m just saying: if you’re thirsty, drink water.
