Carbs get such a bad wrap. Over the years a lot of people have been convinced by diet culture that carbs are what make you fat, but carbs are what give you energy and anyone telling you otherwise is usually oversimplifying things or trying to sell you something.

Before you hit the gym you should consume something that’s mostly carbs. Quick digesting carbs can give you fast available energy to perform in the gym. I personally prefer a quick snack of dried mango slices over just about anything before training.

Some people think they need protein to perform in the gym, but protein is more for repairing muscle and supporting growth. Right before training it can sometimes feel a bit heavier to digest, depending on the meal. You want something that will digest quickly and help maintain glycogen levels.

Here’s a list of some fast digesting carbs you could munch before a workout:

  • Bananas

  • Rice cakes

  • Honey

  • Dried fruit

  • Even a friggin Rice Crispy treat!

Where most people go wrong is over consuming carbs, that can contribute to weight gain, but that has more to do with the calories in/out conversation.

I’m launching a private No Spotter Discord next week, I’m looking forward to telling you all more about it!
